Upcoming changes to our OIDC platform

There are important changes coming to the BankID OpenID Connect platform that may impact merchants and partners. It is crucial that your technical resources are aware of this and have taken any necessary steps by October 2025.

UI-update to the BankID web client

Unified Dialog Design for Authentication and Signing

What’s Changing?

We’re updating the user interface (UI) of the BankID web client to align with the modern design already used across other services in the authentication and signing flow. This includes a refreshed and consistent visual style for all dialogs displayed throughout the user journey.

Why it matters

  • Consistency: Users will experience a unified interface across the entire authentication and signing process, promoting familiarity and trust.
  • Modern Design: The updated UI reflects our current design standards — cleaner, more accessible, and user-friendly.
  • Improved User Experience: A consistent look and feel across services makes the flow smoother and more predictable, especially when switching between app and web.

What’s Included in the Update

  • Updated visual styling for all dialogs shown during authentication and signing flows.
  • Harmonised colours, typography, spacing, button styles, and icons
  • Support for both light and dark mode, consistent with the current experience for biometric authentication
  • UI alignment across web client, BankID app and OIDC-based client flows

What’s Not Changing

  • The underlying functionality and security of the flows remain unchanged.
  • Technical integration points for developers using BankID and OIDC stay the same.

When Will This Happen?

The updated interface will be rolled out to pre-production 21th – 25th of April, and to production 26th – 30th of May. No changes are required from relying parties!

Test clients in the Stø-portal

We are excited to announce an exciting new feature in the Stø portal: Self-service ordering of BankID test clients! Now you can easily order test clients on behalf of merchants without having to contact support.

With a BankID test client, your developers can work in a secure test environment that ensures robust integration and a seamless user experience. This provides an easy set up and secure integration, completely free and without an expiration date on the test clients!

How to get started with testing

  1. Log in to the Stø portal at portal.stoe.no
  2. Click on "Services" from the side menu and select «BankID»
  3. Select "Create test client"

Signing service from BankID

We are now piloting the new signing service from BankID. The pilot period will run until June and hopefully the new service will be in production during August. If you want to join our pilot, we still have a few spots left, please reach out to your partner manager if you have questions regarding the pilot or the new service.
