BankID on mobile was turned off September 1, 2024
Two years ago, we announced the start of the transition from BankID on mobile to the BankID app. Now, we are finally there!
Published: September 2, 2024
From September 1st there will no longer be possible to use BankID on mobile.
The two years have been well spent with communication to the end users and coordination between all Norwegian banks to come together around one shared app. We have already surpassed 3.3 million app users, and we estimate that the number will rise to around 3.6 million by the end of the summer.
What do you as a BankID partner need to do?
IWe need you to assist merchants to replace or remove old BankID on mobile logos if they have not done it already. There will be different needs for support from you as partners.
Merchants with OIDC integration
For customers who use BankID's method selector, no changes will be required. We will remove the choice of BankID on mobile in the generic method selector, and thereafter the change will apply to all merchants using this method selector.
If, however, the merchant uses a partner's or their own method selector, the login option "BankID on mobile" must be removed. Logo can be found here.
Merchants with BankID server integration
A change must be made in the integration if your merchant has a BankID server integration. Old logos must be removed. If you are unsure about using the correct logo, check here. As mentioned before, it is desirable to move the merchants away from BankID server, and this is a good opportunity to do that.
Consequence for end customer
No end-users will have an active BankID on mobile certificate after 31.08.2024, but people are creatures of habit, so there is a high probability that the button with BankID on mobile will be used if it is not removed. In that case, the end user will receive an error message and will have to start a new login. This is an unfortunate user experience for the end user.
